A Nepali Wedding

Our Nepali friend, Gita, got married today, and we were so blessed to be able to attend.

Their story:
The marriage was arranged.  The couple met only once about a month before the wedding.  She is older than he.  His parents are deceased.  Both are from the same people group.  Both love Jesus.

Our story:
We left the house to head out to the village where the wedding was held at 10:30.  We arrived at 11:30 am, expecting the ceremony to begin at noon.  A little after 1pm, the pastor announced the wedding was about to begin.  The ceremony was about an hour and a half and a traditional Nepali lunch was served.  We headed back home around 3pm, exhausted but joy-filled!

The stories told in photos:

J. was pretty much wired through the whole wedding.

My parents got to attend their first Nepali wedding!

My mom held L. for the majority of the wedding so I could take pictures.

(Most Christian women wear white though the traditional wedding sari is red.)

A surprise guest
(who traveled all the way from the States just for the wedding!)

Making friends

The veil was down for the majority of the wedding.

Prayer for the couple

Lighting the unity candle

Mother of the bride signing the marriage certificate.
Unable to sign her name, she gave her thumbprint instead.

The oldest two fell asleep.

Please pray for the new couple as they begin their marriage.  Ask the Lord to establish their marriage on a firm foundation, granting joy and patience as they learn and grow to love one another.
