Repairs and the Hillbilly Bluetooth

We're back!  Yay!  We're so glad to be home.  Of course, we miss our family and friends, but it really feels like India is home for us.  We just wish all of you could move right down the street from us.

Our return home was met with some challenges.  Probably the most inconvenient thing was the electricity problems we had.

Sure, we expected the power cuts from 10am to 2 pm everyday.  And we even expected the extra cuts that were unscheduled.  But we never expected that the mainline stabilizer for our house would take in good voltage and knock it up to a whopping 330 volts of electricity!

The damage:
  • Every light socket had to be repaired = dark rooms even when there was power
  • Inverter didn't work = no battery back up when the power was out
  • Water pump didn't work = upstairs neighbors had a temporary pump switch rigged to be able to pump water (otherwise we would have had no water; thankfully their electricity voltage was not affected)
  • Water filter didn't work = no free, clean, drinking water at home
So, after numerous phone calls to repairmen and several hours days later, the voltage was set straight and most everything was in working condition again.

The man who fixed our water filter was very innovative.  In order to talk on his mobile while continuing to work, he used the "hillbilly bluetooth" - he shoved his mobile into his stocking cap to hold it in place over his ear.  Brilliant, I tell ya!

Ah, I miss that kind of innovation. Sorry about your power probs! I hope no major electronics were harmed in the making of this adventure. My last few months in Delhi the water pump on top of my building (which was my roof) went off on schedule, whether it needed too or not. And since the landlords had moved to Scotland & R & M had moved into the TAJ, I was the only one there using water. Had water flowing down the walls some days. Great times. Good to hear whats up!

yuck! It's not fun to come home to a mess! Did you have any rodent problems?
We saw a Sikh guy do that "bluetooth" thing the other day in his turban - while driving his motorcycle :) Awesome :)
